Sandi Gentry

Here are some sites I think are good about giving tips.

http://thepioneerwoman.com/photography/
This site has general tips from how to take a picture to photo shop tips. They also have some great photo shop actions that are free!

http://iheartfaces.blogspot.com/
This is a fun site to follow. Each week they have a contest. Each week for the contest there is a new theme. You guys can even enter the contest. Participants range from beginners to professional. Even if you don't enter the contest it is fun to follow along with their themes. See what the themes are and try to take pictures that go along with the particular theme. Look at others entries, maybe they will inspire you.

mcpactions.com/
This lady has a company that sells actions but she also gives a lot of free advice that can be helpful.

http://www.coffeeteaphotography.blogspot.com/
This is a site that has lots of photo shop tips and she also gives free photo shop templates and actions.

To recap thoughts from the discussion yesterday here are some tips to capture a more interesting picture.

- Move your model around. The subject does not always have to be standing in the middle of the viewfinder.

-Move yourself around. Try to find an interesting angle to take the picture. Move yourself up and down. To the left and right. Move the camera at an angle to make the picture interesting. A 30 degree angle turn of the camera is good.

- Zoom in. If your camera doesn't allow you to zoom in close then crop after your have downloaded your photo. Don't be afraid to crop off tops of heads.

-Shoot through objects. Fences, trees, plants, windows, etc. Play with this and see if you can get some fun shots.

-Tell a story with your photographs. Zoom in on part of the subject. Shoes, hands curls of the hair, etc. Can make a dramatic photograph.

- Don't be afraid to take a lot of photos. When you think you have gotten a great shot, keep shooting. Be creative. After a shoot, download your photos and review. Learn from your shoot. Look at the photos you like. What about is it that catches your eye? Look at other photographers pictures. What do you like about them?

Have fun and take lots of photos!

Important Announcements

1. Thanks to all who came to our meeting last Thursday...however I think a lot of people forgot!! Please remember to come to our meetings and submit photos! Invite your friends to come along!
2. Tyler Bickel's photo won for the Hawaiian theme and Shelby Holloway's won for the New Beginnings/Fresh Start theme! I will hopefully have both of your pictures posted soon!
3. I also want to emphasize getting your photos in on time! From now on, if you try to send in or add in photos after the deadlines they will no longer be accepted!
4. Our next meeting will be on March 4th and the deadline is March 1st. Email your photos to Lauren, our awesome club VP at abac_dancer@yahoo.com. The theme for this month is Love.
5. On March 18th we will be having an amazing and talented photographer, Sandi Gentry come speak to our club! Please make a special effort to be there that day! To check out her work, click here.
6. For the multicultural fair, I no longer need any decorations and home items from club members. Thanks for the offers but it is now too late. I have found some other decorations to use and I think we will be fine. There is no longer a need to send me the list of what you have and how much like I was asking for before. (Madison, I am still counting on you for the poster, however).
7. However, we STILL NEED MONEY! So please, if you haven't yet paid your $5 of club dues it's not too late!!! Please do so asap!! You can give it to me personally, or Lauren Grulkowski. Thanks to all who paid already! It is much appreciated!
8. If you were at our booth for club rush (the original members from last year), then you are invited to be present at our booth for multicultural fair. If you can't or don't want to, that's fine, but just know that you are invited to. (I wish I could invite the entire club, but I just can't have 35 or more people standing around our tiny table. However, you're welcome to come by and purchase food and enjoy the hawaiian atmosphere!) Please remember to wear your AWESOME blue tye-dye t-shirts the day of the fair! (Friday, Feb. 26th)
Okay, I'm finally done.
Thanks :)

January's theme UPDATED!

For the month of January, please be taking pics for our theme fresh start/new beginnings. But also, I'm adding another side-theme. Thank you Tyler Bickel for the wonderful idea! You can also take Hawaiian themed photos and enter them as well. There will be 2 voting rounds and 2 winners the day of the powerpoint. If you win for the first theme, you're picture goes in our frame as usual. If you win for the Hawaiian one, you're photo gets displayed at our booth on the day of the Multicultural Fair! You may only enter one photo for each category! Deadline for both is still Feb. 1st.

February Powerpoint!

For the month of January, please be taking pictures of our theme "Fresh Start/New Beginnings." This theme is very general and I feel it can be taken in many directions. My hope is that everyone will get creative with this month's theme and blow everyone away with outstanding and unique photos! We've lately had a lack of entries to our monthly slideshows, so PLEASE be on top of things for this month and don't forget to take photos!!! Send them in to our VP, Lauren Grulkowski at abac_dancer@yahoo.com. The deadline for this one will be February 1st. Our meeting to view and vote will be on Feb. 4th. Don't forget! Thanks everyone!!
